Welcome to our Group

The Discourse Studies research group at the University of Jordan investigates many types of communicative genres in media, academic, or professional contexts. The group explores the kind of social relations realized through discourse and the identities it constructs, with a strong focus on pragmatic and discourse dimensions. Their work involves the investigation of metadiscourse, stance, and interactional features in first and second language contexts.

The research group focuses on metadiscourse, which refers to the ways in which speakers or writers remark on their own discourse with the aim of guiding interpretation and engagement. In addition, research is concerned with multimodal discourse analysis, where more than one mode—text, image, and sound, for instance—interact to create meaning.
